Lonely Planet Travel Guides are just made up!

Lonely Planet (one of the bigger publishers of travel guides) admitted to basically making stuff up. Not too surprising I guess. Really, the whole industry seems to have been under suspicion for a while, but still, this is pretty bad.

Oh well. I guess blogs are getting to be a better source of this sort of information, but the problem is, blogs are not organized in a way so someone could use them to prep for a trip. (There might be a business idea in that, actually).

PS: Yes, I haven't blogged in a while, but now I am back... expect more soon! (As well as a recap of what I have been up to in the last few months!).

You know, I was reading a Lonely Planet guide about Brussels and I'd already read one about Paris. After reading the one about Paris, I pretty much decided not to go there. Then, when the same thing happened when I was reading about Brussels, I thought there might be something inherantly snarky about the series. Michelin's Guide to Paris makes me want to go there. I'm still not going to Brussels, but now, thanks to Michelin, I'm going to Bruges and Ghent. The Michelin Guide to Paris was a little snarky too, but at least it was more full of facts than snarks. Not so with Lonely Planet. And their layout made me pull out my magnifying glass. Pooh on them. I believe that all this is proof that I should just keep going back to Germany. :-) (By the way, I've finished writing my book on Hildegard von Bingen--that's why I get to go somewhere other than the Rheinland of Germany! Now, I'm just looking for a publisher.) Hugs and Mozartkueglen to you, Melanie
